Rough Shaping the Heel |
Yet another fixture to hold the
neckshaft while routing |
A custom router bit to shape the
front of my heel into it's unique radius |
The heel after the routing step |
| |
A quick and reliable method of drawing a centerline down
the
neckshaft. I don't want a misalignment here! |
| |
This fixture will allow me to rout
the definition of the sides of the heel |
| |
Note the dust collection in the
back. The router is flipped around for the opposite side to ensure
symmetry in case of the slightest eccentricity of the bit in the
guide collar |
| |
I want a graceful arc defining the
heel where it will mate with the upper bout. Not too wide but wide
enough to accommodate the integrated tenon |
| |
Now the heel is perfectly
symmetrical and will later be carved and shaped to final dimensions |
| |
This small run of neckshafts is
now stocked for a very long time to await the next step. But even at
this point the neck is extremely stable and trustworthy |
